I currently serve as an AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) 6-12 Math Specialist at the University of North Alabama. I am in my fifth year of supporting administrators, teachers, and students. In this role, I create and execute professional learning opportunities for the Northwest Region of Alabama. I currently support and collaborate with educators in nine different systems with best practices, data analysis, and content deepening. I also have the wonderful opportunity of engaging with students who are passionate about math and are excited about their future.
Prior to working with AMSTI, I was a math teacher in Limestone County for twenty years. I taught Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II with Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. I served as the mathematics chairperson and was a building lead teacher. Most importantly, I worked with amazing students who afforded me the opportunity to grow professionally. In 2016, I completed my Ed.S. in Teacher Leader and then went on to become certified as an Instructional Leader from the University of North Alabama.
I enjoy teaming up with administrators, teachers, and students to make their learning experience a positive one. I consider myself as a life-long learner and I am always willing to grow professionally. As a new member of the Learning Forward Alabama Board, I am excited about getting to know and support others in the educational field that have the same growth mindset.
